Jean Lab Conclusion

Jean Lab Conclusion

The question of the lab was "which concentration of bleach would create the best faded looking jeans". We found that the solution containing 50% bleach and 50% water was the best option. This 50/50 solution did not damage the fabric and came out with the best color of all solutions. This solution also came out with the same result all three trials, so it is very reliable. The 100% bleach solution also gave the same results all three trials. However, this solution ruined the fabric of the jeans, made the jeans very stiff, made the jeans almost completely white, and left them lingering with an awful smell.
This is all of the data that we collected during this experiment. We concluded that the 50% bleach gave the best results.
We lined up the jeans going in order from 12.5%, 25%, 50%, to 100% bleach. It had the best color and the fabric was not too damaged.

While our hypothesis was supported by our data, there could have been errors due to the fact that we did not have the paper towels ready at the table in time so the jeans soaked in the bleach for longer than they should have. This could have varied our results because the jeans got more bleached than they should have. Due to these errors, in future experiments we will have all of the supplies ready before we start the experiment.

This lab was done to demonstrate the best solution of water and bleach to create faded jeans. From this lab I learned that bleach discolored the jeans and the higher amount of bleach in the solution, it started to ruin the fabric and further discolor the jeans. Based on my experience from this lab, I learned that the perfect balance was 50% water and 50% bleach. Based on my experience from this lab, always make sure to have all of the supplies ready before you start the experiment.
