Microscopic Organisms Lab


In this lab we looked at different organisms under the microscope. The purpose of this lab was to identify the key features of autotrophs, heterotrophs, prokaryotes, eukaryotes, and Protists. We accomplished this by looking at different cells under the microscope. We looked at muscle tissue, the Ligustrum, the Spirogya, Bacteria, Cyanobacteria, the Euglena, and the Ameoba.

This is the muscle tissue. It is multinucleate which means it has more than one nucleus. We were able to identify all of the nuclei within the cell but could not identify the bands of fibers (striations).

This is the Ligustrum. We were able to identify the chloroplasts, the epidermis cells, and the vein.

This is the Spirogya. We were able to identify the Cell Wall and the Chloroplasts. The Chloroplasts are the black dots.

These are bacteria cells. We found the Bacillus, the Spirilum, and the Coccus.

We were able to identify a single cell, the cell wall, and the cytoplasm of the Cyanobacteria.

We found the nucleus, and the chloroplast of the Euglena.

We found the Pseudopod, the Cell Membrane, and the Nucleus of the Amoeba.


Most of the autotrophs were a green color and they also all had chloroplasts. A lot of the autotrophs had to do with plants. All of the eukaryotes had a nucleus while none of the prokaryotes had a nucleus. All the eukaryotes had organelles while the prokaryotes did not have any organelles. The heterotrophs were all also eukaryotic.
